Frequently asked questions
How do I minimise a PDF file size?
Upload it here and press Compress. Most of the size in a large PDF is images, usually scanned pages or photos, so reducing their resolution is what makes the difference. For a further 20-30% on a black-and-white document, also tick Convert to grayscale.
The form says "maximum allowed file size is 2 MB". What should I do?
Choose 2 MB under "Or get under a size limit". The compressor stops as soon as the file is under 2 MB instead of shrinking it as far as it can, so you keep as much quality as the limit allows.
Why is my file too big to upload?
Usually because it is a scan or contains phone photos. Each scanned page is a full image, often 1-3 MB on its own. Compressing to the portal limit, or removing pages the form did not ask for, fixes it in most cases.
Does compressing a PDF reduce quality?
Text and vector graphics are not touched, so they stay sharp. Images lose some detail, more at Strong and Maximum. Light compression is almost invisible but saves less.
