Why scans come out sideways
Scanners and phone cameras record an orientation tag alongside the image. Some viewers honour it, some ignore it, and some PDF generators bake the wrong assumption in. The result is a page that looks correct in one application and sideways in another.
Rotating here writes the correct orientation into the document itself, so it renders the same way everywhere - unlike the rotate button in a PDF viewer, which usually only affects your current view and is lost on close.
Rotating some pages but not others
Each page thumbnail has its own rotate control, and the preview turns as you click so you can see exactly what you will get. Rotate all is there for documents scanned entirely in the wrong orientation.
